boys can look cheap, girls should look expensive

Once upon a time I was this naive little girl, thinking that "down to earth" girls are more likable. I tried so hard to conceal what I liked (expensive bags), and pretended I like cheap food (junk food), and visit cheap places (aka spend next to no money). Guess what kind of boys I attracted? Cheap boys.

You see, this is part of the law of attraction. The only people who will appreciate you being so "affordable", are going to be those who can't afford it. The boys who appreciate girls who are down to earth and spend no money, are the boys either without money, or not willing to spend money. Why? Cuz they don't think you're worth it, as simple as that.

Why are girls taught to be "cheap", and look "cheap"? Sure, you might attract more people (quantity) if you look super approachable and affordable, but think about the quality of the people you attract? Probably low too.

Just to clarify- I'm not trying to objectify women by using the word affordable. It's just short for "afford to initiate a date".

So the next time some shames you for looking "expensive", or reminding them of dates they can't afford, simply be glad that your expensive look is your firewall. You looking expensive can filter out loser boys, either those with no ability, no drive, or no respect. The boys who truly respect girls, will take action that show that you're worth it, and your time is worth it.

Is it worth it: Alaska Airlines Mileage Purchase

So, it starts with a story of a naive little girl seeing this blogpost about Alaska Airline mileage program and how good it is etc etc. She then managed to break into her little piggy bank, take lots of money out, and buy mileage when it’s not even at its optimal purchase point. You all know how the story goes. She regrets her purchase.

Let’s do the math here. The girl managed to purchase the below with $1448.56:

Miles Purchased:
49000
Bonus Miles:
19600
Total Miles:
68600
She then managed to get (redeem) a one way ticket from LA to Shanghai (with Osaka as a transfer destination in between), for almost all of those points. When we think about it logically, she basically bought a ONE-WAY ticket for almost $1500, even though she could probably get a round trip economy ticket with that price. (She even paid an extra $26 of fees).

  • MISTAKE #1: Cherry didn’t wait for the optimal purchase time with more bonus points. 40% seems to be an all year round “special promo” that’s really not that special.

  • MISTAKE #1a: Cherry didn’t wait for optimal purchase times like Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
  • She naively thought that flight ticket would NEVER be on sale, even during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. WRONG. She bought the tickets the night before Cyber Monday, which turned out to be a big mistake, since Expedia had great sales on Cyber Monday. $200 off round trip tickets (hey!). Expedia had $800 something roundtrip (economy) tickets from LAX-PVG at the time, and with $200 off of that…. Omg…. what a loss.

  • MISTAKE #2: Cherry didn’t check the conversion between SPG and Alaska Airlines.
  • The conversion used to be great! 1:1, as claimed by major blog posts like the points guy. Apparently, that was still the case earlier in the year, say, August 2018. Too bad it’s not the case now (November 2018). It’s now 3:1. Cherry thought she was so rich with her 100K SPG points. Too bad it only translated to 30K in the end. Not enough for even one single business ticket. Sad, sad, sad.

  • MISTAKE #3: Cherry miscalculated the time it took for the mileage purchase to come through and the SPG transfer purchase to come through.
  • The mileage purchase, surprisingly, took more than a couple days to complete. It’s pretty counterintuitive since it should be a SIMPLE PURCHASE, but as with everything Alaska does in my experience, EVERYTHING IS DELAYED. In addition, the mileage transfer takes even longer. It’s been well over a week since the points have been deducted from my SPG account, and the mileage is STILL NOT in my Alaska account. STILL NOT. [Even tried calling them, waiting on the line like a hopeful little kid and oops, of course there's nothing they can do.] Well… can someone explain to me, why I ever initiated that transfer. So guess what Cherry’s current situation is? She bought her one way ticket to Osaka and Shanghai, and did not buy a return ticket. (How will she come back, or will she ever…) The current price on Expedia, for an Economy ticket from PVG (Shanghai) to LAX (Los Angeles) is $308. Not much yeah. But how about those useless mileage transfer? If she doesn’t use them, they’ll probably devalue.
Rule of thumb #1: most, if not all points eventually devalue over time since companies will not be willing to bring up even more cost on money they already received. It’s always wise to use up points ASAP especially when the redemption or conversion looks like a good deal.

Rule of thumb #2: good deals don’t last (period).

  • Of course, that’s not the end of Cherry’s first points-hunting mileage-seeking experience full of mistakes. There’s more to come. Promise me you won’t make the same mistake. Till next time, peace.

About Productivity

All this time we keep hearing about the important of productivity and so-called productivity hacks.

I seriously tried to absorb all those info like sponge(bob), yet, when the time is not ready, when I'm not ready, none of these productivity hacks helped. Yeah everyone says executives and successful people meditate and wake up 5 am in the morning to work on the most important tasks, read a ton of books and work out regularly. We know the drill, we all do. Yet, how many of use truly, follow those hacks?

We all know the important of sleep, and how sleeping earlier is good for your brain and health in general, yet, how many people can ACTUALLY sleep before 10 pm, consecutively, for just a month?

My point is, all these productivity hacks are absolutely useless. Stop reading them over and over again, because you'd just be wasting time. When you're not ready to absorb those info like sponge(bob), you're just not gonna be ready. Yeah sure, you might be able to change your routine for the first, one, two, or three days, with your initial burst of motivation. But, how about after that? Do you think you'd still be able to continue after that, and make those productivity hacks part of your routine? I highly doubt it. Been there, done that.

So what should you do? You may ask.

My perspective is that forcing yourself to change a habit would never, ever be successful. All these people who turned their life over, had a tipping point moment. Let it me some horrible health issues, a car accident, a loved one passing away, etc. It's something major. It's something external that pushed them to make the change in their life. If nothing major happens in your life, you're not going to have enough motivation to make the change. Some people lose 15 pounds in a month due to a breakup. The 15 pounds is their drastic change, and the tipping point is the breakup. Do you think they'd be able to lose that 15 pounds without the breakup, the tipping point? Nah, I doubt it.

Instead of reading all these "chicken soup stories for your soul", or those motivational stories and memoirs, why don't you spend the time to do whatever the hell you want to do. Let it be scrolling through reddit aimlessly, or binge-watching Netflix, or scrolling through the end of your Instagram feed. There's no shame in that. Really. I mean, don't you already do those things even with the mindset of creating the chance in your life everyday? Don't you already try so hard to stay away from "bad habits", but find yourself falling into those "traps" each and every day? So, what's the point of giving yourself feelings of guilt and shame, if these "traps" are just meant to be there, meant for your to fall into them before the tipping point of your life?

If you're not ready, you just won't be. So quit trying. Quit feeling bad. Quit giving yourself guilt. Just live life as it is and be as happy as you can.

Bringing Home Hermes Kelly in 2018 without buying Baits

Bringing home an Hermes bag is never easy, let alone an Hermes Kelly.
Last time I went to Paris, I got an
Hermes Birkin - watch how to do it here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1gFZ7xS40oaUSAGJBI4h-CHCppSBAM7S

This time I got an Hermes Kelly since I found the need to have a shoulder strap.
I tried out the new Hermes leather appointment system in Paris, for the FSH, or flagship store.
I've created a playlist for you: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1gFZ7xS40oaDhJxYoPleatVQ2i1qpx1n
But in case you want to select which video to watch first, please see below

If you prefer to read, I will leave my super frazzled narrative here:
Super frazzled right now but let me post some deets of how I score my Hermes Kelly bag from Paris while it’s still fresh on my mind. I did the appointment system for 4 times without success, so when my first try didn’t go through, I decided to visit the other 2 stores everyday. This decision turned out to be correct (at least that’s what I did and it worked)So for all those times I didn’t get an appointment, I actually showed up at the FSH store twice anyway just to try my luck (6/30, 7/2) and see if they could fit me in somehow. That didn’t work. FSH was basically so crowded that it wasn’t pleasant to shop in anymore. So, I moved on to the other 2 stores. George V store is usually my go to store since I knew an SA from 2 years ago. But, for some reason, George V seemed to be the busiest store out of the 3 H stores in Paris. Every single visit contained hours of waiting and rude customers playing voice messages or some random music out loud. Kinda depressing because George V is such a cute store and H shopping should be more pleasant IMO. It took me 3 visits before I could finally meet with my SA. Unfortunately, George V didn’t have BKC for all the days I went (6/29, 6/30, 7/2). According to the SA, most customers who got rejected from the FSH’s appointment system end up going to George V. That’s why George V is so crowded all the time. Since George V is already a smaller store to begin with, their stock is always really low. For all the days (6/29, 6/30 and 7/2), I also visited the Sèvres store. I like shopping there the most, because of it’s interior design and also the fact that things are more spread out- so there’s room to walk around and admire H art. There, I met with my SA from 2 years ago. I tried sending an email to her before my visit but didn’t get a response. So, I decided to show up in the store anyway and see if I can meet with her again. Let’s call the Sèvres store SA, “A” from now on to avoid confusion. I didn’t buy anything from “A” in my last visit, but I got the vibe that she is also the no BS, no games type - which I like. She doesn’t try to sell my anything that she doesn’t think suits me. In my first visit (6/29), I went straight to the “subject” asking about bags. Not surprisingly, there weren’t any, but she told me to go back on Monday (7/2). In my second visit (6/30), I went without an appointment with her, just to admire Hermès goodies, and ended up loving the Oasis white sandals. Another SA, “B”, helped me with that, when I saw “A” pass by. I felt so bad! I didn’t know she was working that day! Kind of felt like I betrayed “A”. So, after I put a reservation on my Oasis, I joined the bag queue to see my “A”, and tried on several things with her that day. I ended up putting a hold on some scarves and shoes, since I was going to visit her again on Monday, and would rather consolidate my VAT paperwork.
Soooo... weekend aka Sunday felt super long without H, but I did a lot of damage at Le Bon Marche which is a different story. 😅
Here comes Monday (which is today). I got up early and went to the Sèvres store right at 10:25 (store opens at 10:30). There were already around 7 people in front of me. I was so shocked! So, I joined the queue and waited for “A”. I probably have the worst luck with queues, since I saw “A” pass by several time, and getting assigned to customers right in front of me. Didn’t even get to saw hi to her 😅 anyway, I finally met with her this morning, but she said there were no deliveries today. If I hear these exact words from another SA, I’d probably have some doubt- but this is “A”, so I completely believe her. She then told me to come back later in the afternoon. I left my France number with her, and told her that I’ll be back for sure. Ok so it’s lots of waiting again. During those hours of waiting, I tried out a cute little cafe when it started raining lightly outside. Kind of romantic if you ask me. I also visited the other H stores. But as I’ve mentioned, I had no luck with the other stores. So, I went back to Le Bon Marché (which happened to be right next to the Sèvres store), almost did some damage at Gucci, and headed back to Sèvres 15 minutes before my appointment with “A”. Not surprisingly, Sèvres also has a long queue for bags, even at 5pm. So , I waited, waited and waited. It must be 5:35 ish when I finally met with her, because I literally only took 1 minute to look at her offer and decide. She met with me and went straight to the subject. No BS. No baits. She told me that there’s 2 bags that I might like. One is a K35, Togo, black with gold hardware. Another is a K28, blue with silver hardware. Here comes the decision! I know I like black with GHW, but it’s a 35, while the K28, is in SHW. The first thing I said to her after hearing the offers is “I really like black with GHW but I don’t know if a 35 would work for me”. She said, yes I understand, but you can try it out to see if it works. We went into the magic room, aka changing room 😅 there, she carefully unwrapped the bag and I remained speechless the whole time. The entire times, there were a million voices in my head, saying “you like classic colors” and “but you already have a K28 in black and ghw” and “K28 is the right size for you”, “but it’s in SHW”! In the end, I went with what the SA showed me first - which was the K35, Togo, black with gold hardware. Surprisingly, it didn’t look obnoxiously large on my 5’4” frame. Does it look big? Yes. But it wasn’t as bad as I expected. I happily took the K35 without even seeing the K28. My only regret? Well it’s never seeing the K28. I don’t even know what kind of blue it was! But, as I asked to see the K28 after I paid for the K35, my SA looked for it for around 30 minutes (felt like a lifetime), and came back to tell me that it’s just been sold.

SCORED MY FIRST HERMES KELLY FROM PARIS ON MY OWN!

Super frazzled right now but let me post some deets while it’s still fresh on my mind.
